Weight of Thought

Different opinions lead to discussions, debates, fights. But not every debate has the same weight; yet every tweet has: namely the 0.02 grams of carbon that a tweet emits through its technical communication.

Weight of Thoughts raises awareness to the intensity of different debates by recording relevant Twitter hashtags. The work consists of a self-constructed and self-programmed drawing machine that draws a line in real time, each time a hashtag is used. The line itself uses exactly 0.02 grams of charcoal. Work of art and infographic at the same time: the more a topic is discussed, the darker the drawing. Depicting the pulse of the debates, the trends in black and white – including their CO2 footprint.
