5 Minutes Noise
Noise: meaningless streams of data, until contextualized, analysed and turned into information.
In the project 5 minutes noise I became the input sensor, the context, and emerged myself in a literal stream of noise. I stood still in the midst of different pedestrian areas and for 5 minutes noted every piece of readable (understandable) data from the noise around me.
The meaningless noise resulted in poem-like texts. The texts left the factor of information up to the interpretation of the reader: What must this neighborhood be like? What are the people there like? Who was speaking? In the absence of information, the mind finds its own answers, resulting in a contradiction to what is often regarded as the sole purpose of data: facts.
